1. Discovery and Research

  • Conduct surveys, interviews, and data analysis to understand user needs
  • Hold design sessions with stakeholders to define project requirements and explore design possibilities
  • Use insights from interviews, observations, and competitive analysis to help us shape the project’s direction and ensure user needs are at the core of decision-making

2. Ideation and Design

  • Translate research into structured concepts, including a site map, user personas, journey maps, etc.
  • Create wireframes to establish the content structure, functionality, and user flow of the application, without focusing on visual design
  • Multiple iterations may follow

3. Mockup and Prototype

  • Develop high-fidelity mockups to create a cohesive look and feel that aligns with Johns Hopkins branding following wireframe approval
  • Design mockups and clickable prototypes with accessibility in mind, adhering to WCAG guidelines for font sizes, color contrast, and interactive elements
  • Lead usability testing and refinements to further enhance the user experience
  • Conduct branding sessions if needed to help refine UI preferences, ensuring the design meets user expectations
  • Create comprehensive style guide to document branding elements, colors, typography, and spacing

4. Development and Testing

  • Ensure the accurate execution of the design through designer and developer collaboration
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Web Services and accessibility teams to support initiatives around website privacy, security, and accessibility
  • Perform final usability checks including accessibility considerations using assistive technology (e.g., screen readers, keyboard navigation)
  • Conduct quality assurance testing
  • Make last-minute adjustments ensuring the final product is polished and ready for users
